Many Olympic lifters, rock climbers, and power lifters have to use chalk. Its nothing too special, but it helps a lot. There are only two benefits to using chalk:
  • Better Grip
  • Prevents Calluses by preventing excessive skin from folding upon themselves. unfortunately, avoiding calluses is, for the majority of people, impossible.

    Using Gloves Does Not Help The problem with using gloves is that it adds thicker layer for your hands to grip around. Also, if your skins still folds up when you are using gloves&youre going to get a callus anyways.
    Solution? Using chalk will prevent sweaty hands. This will help you get a better grip on the bar (Dead-lift, Cleans, Snatch, Pulls), Chin ups). When you are able to grip the bar better, you are able to activate more muscle fibers in your body. This is why coaches tell their lifters to have white knuckles when they bench. Coaches want to see a tight grip to ensure that their subject is fully engaging their muscles.
